PT. Elangperdana Tyre Industry (EP Tyre) has recently issued a major recall for Accelera Omikron tires. These tires are most often put on light trucks and SUVs. One specific size of this tire model is affected: LT265/65R18 tires. We consider it a major recall asthe number of units potentially affected is over 4,000. As always, the recall was officially announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) based on safety concerns raised by the manufacturer.
What Is The Issue?
The issue seems to be pretty serious: a potential seperation in the sidewall of these units may lead to tire failure. Tire failures are no joke. They can lead to serious accidents – especially at higher speeds or if the tire is under great load. We ask everyone using these tires to take this recall seriously and stop using them as soon as possible. Although no accidents and/or injuries have been reported so far, it is not worth risking.
What to Do If You Own These Tires?
The manufacturer, EP Tyre offers a full refund for these tires. They have begun sending out notification letters about a week ago, on 15th of July so, you may have already received yours (if not yet, you should soon). EP Tyre asks owners of Accelera tires to check their tire model and size on the sidewall of their tire. Contact them directly at +62 (21) 876-5105 in case you happen to use one of the affected sets.
Final Thoughts
We at PickYourTires.com strongly recommend you to check the specifications of your tires. Especially, in case you have purchased Accelera tires recently. If you do not trust the brand anymore because of this incident and you are looking for some great alternatives, we recommend you to take a look at the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2, the Falken WildPeak A/T3W and the Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S. They are all popular and solid choices.
