Continental Tire the Americas, LLC has just issued a recall for 542 units of the General Altimax RT45 tire – as announced on the official NHTSA website. Normally, a car tire recall is no joke and this case is no exception.
It turns out that 542 units of the 235/60R18 size of this tire model have potentially been overcured. This manufacturing defect may lead to tread separation or a sudden loss of air pressure. Both cases can be very dangerous especially, in case it happens while driving fast or under a heavy load.
Have you purchased this exacty model recently? We recommend you to check the size of your tires on their sidewalls as soon as possible. In case you own the model in the potentially affected size, stop using them. Don’t use the vehicle until you get your tires replaced.
Continental will replace all affected General Altimax RT45 tires free of charge. They will begin sending out notification letters on August 25, 2025 – so, you should expect to receive your in about a month from now. Just like us at PickYourTires.com, Continental also recommends you to stop using these tires immediately – it is not worth risking a potential accident.
In case you have any questions regarding the situation and what to do, you can contact Continental and NHTSA as well. You can reach Continental’s customer service at 1-888-799-2168. Alternatively, you may also get in contact with the NHTSA Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
